Pico House was a luxury hotel opened in 1870. With 80 rooms, a grand staircase, and an aviary of exotic birds, the hotel was among the most extravagant in California. In 1871, the Los Angeles Chinese massacre occurred nearby. Approximately 19 Chinese immigrants were killed in “the largest mass lynching in American history”. The hotel is plagued by “mysterious footsteps and shadows”. An investigation conducted by Ghost Adventures revealed vengeful spirits that kick staff down staircases. Pio Pico, Governor of Alta California and original building owner, is often seen looking through the hotel windows. Address: 424 North Main Street. Los Angeles, CA.

Old Olalla Cemetery is located in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. Established in 1901, the 1.5 acre burial ground contains victims of serial killer physician Linda Burfield Hazzard. As a self-described “fasting specialist,” Hazzard believed food was the source of all ailments. Patients who visited the “Institute of Natural Therapeutics” were exposed to food depravation, enemas, and violent massages designed to rid the body of toxins. After dozens went missing at “Starvation Heights,” it is believed the physician used Spiritualism to “lock patients up and starve ’em to skin ‘n bone”. Hazzard secretly disposed of victims at Old Olalla Cemetery. Reports of “bodies buried all over” and “a kid finding human skulls” gave the site a haunted reputation. According to local lore, “no one but the very stupid or very brave” visit and “many who pass by…remark how air seems colder”. A few headstones and small post marker on the road shoulder are all that remain of the cemetery. Address: 13191 Olalla Valley Road SE, Olalla, WA.

When a terrible fire broke out at the mansion in April of 1834, seven mutilated enslaved persons were found shackled in the attic. Their bodies revealed years of torture ranging from whipping scars to missing fingernails and gouged eyes. The discovery enraged local citizens who chased LaLaurie from the residence and from New Orleans. Although Delphine never returned, the spirits of her enslaved workers remained. Residents and visitors claim to experience screams of agony coming from the attic, as well as apparitions of enslaved people in the building's courtyard. Recent owner Nicolas Cage confirmed these tales and concluded that "other people have beachfront property; I have ghost front property". Address: 1140 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA.
