GeoHaunts documents ghost stories at the places where they entered the historical record — using real sources and archival materials.

Founded in 2020, GeoHaunts promotes place-based exploration of sites where supernatural claims became part of the written past. We trace each narrative back to earliest known documentation, then present it as public history.

Entries included in GeoHaunts meet all four criteria:

• The location is connected to a ghost story or paranormal legend that is publicly documented;
• The story connected to the site can be traced back to a first known published source;
• The description of the site distinguishes documented history from reported tradition; 
• The physical place still exists or can be precisely mapped.

This approach is designed to separate documented origin from later folkloric memory, and to show how place — not imagination — is where these stories take root.
